The Ohio State football team is trying to beef up its 2026 recruiting class after a poor start to the recruiting cycle. Currently, they have just the ninth-best recruiting class in the country, the year after winning the national championship. Those aren't the kinds of numbers that they were hoping for.
Fans were expecting the Buckeyes to have a stronger class up to this point, but it hasn't happened yet. There is still time for them to turn things around, but they likely will not have a top-five class as they have had in every year that Ryan Day has been the head coach.
Still, Day is doing his best to flip some guys on the trail. Recently, Rivals logged a prediction for the Ohio State Buckeyes to flip three-star offensive lineman Landry Brede, which would give them yet another offensive lineman for the 2026 recruiting class.
Ohio State football program projected to flip Landry Brede
Brede is a three-star tackle recruit who stands at 6'5 and 280 pounds. He is currently committed to NC State, and has been since June. Still, he's a local kid, playing in Mentor, Ohio. If Tyler Bowen and the Buckeyes make a hard push for him, it would make sense that he would want to change his mind.
If Ohio State does add Brede, that would give them five offensive linemen for this class. That's quite a lot of recruits for one class. None of them are five-star recruits, though. Still, the Buckeyes need more depth up front after years of neglecting the proper numbers in recruiting classes.
Bowen is doing his best to replenish that depth in just his first year as the offensive line coach. He is doing the best that he can to bring players in that he believes he can develop into solid starters down the line. He will eventually be able to land blue-chip recruits once Ross Bjork starts using NIL collectives again.
Early Signing Day is still three months away, so the Buckeyes have plenty of time to pick up steam on the recruiting trail. They are still the defending national champs, and they look like they have the talent to go back-to-back. There are plenty of recruits who would love to play for them.
At this point, it's unclear when or if Brede will make the announcement that he has flipped his commitment. It should be sometime soon.
