The Ohio State football program still has some work to do on the coaching staff. After Brian Hartline decided to leave for USF to be their head coach, the Buckeyes need an offensive coordinator. They already have a new wide receivers coach in Cortez Hankton, but still no OC.
At this point, it's unclear when the Ohio State Buckeyes will make a move to bring in an OC. It's still unclear if they have even brought anyone in for an interview. They are being extremely secretive about that hiring. It doesn't seem they will be bringing back a former quarterback to fill that role, either.
However, the Buckeyes did decide to bring back someone else who they previously had on staff. Ohio State has brought back fan-favorite coach and former linebacker Anthony Schlegel to once again be part of their strength and conditioning program heading into 2026.
Former Ohio State linebacker Anthony Schlegel returns to Ohio State's coaching staff
Schlegel was with the Buckeyes under Urban Meyer as the assistant strength and conditioning coach. He followed Meyer to the Jacksonville Jaguars to take over their strength and conditioning program, and was briefly brought back in 2024. Now, he is back on staff.
Schlegel was a linebacker with the Buckeyes after he transferred from Air Force. He would go on to be a third-round pick by the New York Jets. He was part of the three-headed monster at linebacker with A.J. Hawk and Bobby Carpenter, giving the Buckeyes one of the best linebacking corps in the country.
Younger fans might remember him more for his tackle on the field of a rogue fan during a game against Cincinnati back in 2014. That really made the fans happy to see that he could still deliver a hit several years after his pro football career was finished.
It's great to bring Schlegel back, but the Buckeyes still need to bring in an offensive coordinator. That should be their top priority moving forward.
