The Ohio State football program has had to make changes to the coaching staff over the last few months. Brian Hartline decided to leave the Buckeyes to enjoy his first opportunity to be a head coach. With him now in South Florida, Ohio State has had to figure out different coaches to bring in.
Arthur Smith is the new offensive coordinator for the Ohio State Buckeyes, and he loves to run the ball. In order to run the ball well, the offensive line and tight ends need to block well. Bringing in some personnel and other coaches who help fit that new mold is key for them.
Smith is not the only new coach that the Buckeyes have brought in to the coaching staff since the season ended. They have added Cortez Hankton as the wide receivers coach. Now, they have added an assistant tight ends coach who is underrated, but could have a nice impact on the team.
Ohio State football program adds Thomas Morton as assistant tight ends coach
Thomas Morton has been hired to be an assistant tight ends coach for Ohio State. Morton was the quarterbacks coach at Samford this past season and is seen as an up-and-coming offensive mind. He joins the staff in what will be a team with a lot of offensive talent.
Morton should help the Buckeyes with the two new tight ends they brought in from the Transfer Portal. They will certainly be using those tight ends to help with the revamped running game under Smith. Morton will be tasked with helping Kennan Bailey in that regard.
This is likely the last staff change that the Buckeye will make this offseason. It looks like Matt Patricia is locked in to stay with the Buckeyes for at least another year, which is good for the defense. Ryan Day will try to find a way to make the offense more consistent next season.
