Ohio State football player takes a massive shot at the SEC

The Ohio State football team has the best defensive player in the Big Ten, according to the media. Caleb Downs won that award during Media Day, and it is well-deserved. Downs showed last year in his first year with the Buckeyes that he is the best safety in the country.

Downs was a big reason why the Ohio State Buckeyes were able to win the national championship a year ago. He did a fantastic job in the secondary, making several big plays. Downs has been able to make a massive impact on the special teams part of the game, as well.

The Big Ten has now won the national championship two years in a row, which gives them a pretty good claim to being the best conference in the country. That is something the SEC loves to claim, but Downs doesn't think that crown belongs to that conference anymore.

While speaking during Big Ten Media Day, Downs took a shot at the SEC, saying that the Big Ten is the best conference in the country.

"I feel like whatever team wins the national championship can say whatever they want. So, the Big Ten's won the past two years, so they can claim whatever they want to claim until somebody else takes it."

Downs is uniquely qualified to give his opinion on this because he played in both the SEC and the Big Ten. Downs played his freshman season at Alabama. Winning the national championship in his first year with the Buckeyes is something that he is certainly proud of.

It's hard to dispute the argument that Downs is making. The Big Ten's teams at the top are clearly better than the SEC's, as evidenced by what happened in the CFP last year. The Ohio State Buckeyes took down Texas in the Cotton Bowl, taking down the SEC champions.

Ohio State and Penn State are likely going to be two teams in the top five of the preseason polls, so the Big Ten might have another national champion this season.
