Ohio State football might be breaking the bank for elite recruit after announcement

The Ohio State football team has made it clear that it will very rarely pay a premium to bring in high school recruits. They might be making an exception.

Ryan Day has made a couple of things very clear over the last couple of years. The Ohio State football team will add most of its talent from the high school ranks. They want to build up the best young players and only use the Transfer Portal to supplement holes.

Day has also made it clear that the Buckeyes are not interested in paying a massive amount of money for unproven talent. Ross Bjork has made that clear over the last couple of years. That has limited the number of five-star recruits who have been interested over that timespan.

The Ohio State Buckeyes might be breaking that rule. After landing a commitment from DJ Jacobs, Ohio State has some other elite recruits on its mind. The latest announcement from running back David Gabriel Georges might signal that Ohio State is changing their rule.

Elite running back recruit keeps Ohio State football team in his sights

A five-star running back recruit, Gabriel Georges has narrowed down his collegiate list to four schools. The Ohio State Buckeyes are one of them. Other than the Buckeyes, he is still considering Georgia, Ole Miss, and his home-state school, Tennessee.

Gabriel Georges is listed as the second-best running back recruit in the country and the 10th-best overall. Adding him to the Buckeyes would give Carlos Locklyn a truly elite running back. He would be the first five-star back that he has been able to land since being hired a couple of years ago.

At this point, it is still unclear when he will make his final decision. This weekend is a massive recruiting weekend for Ohio State, as it is the annual Spring Game. There will be several recruits in attendance for that game, and some commitments are likely to be made.

The Buckeyes hosted Gabriel Georges for an unofficial visit on opening weekend last year against Texas. They would love to get him back on campus again to seal a commitment. Unfortunately, the Buckeyes likely won't be showcasing the running backs very much this weekend with all of the injuries they have.
