Even in the midst of preparing for another National Championship run, Ohio State is putting a lot of emphasis on recruiting for the Class of 2027. Ohio State already is the No. 4 team in the 2027 recruiting team rankings according to 247Sports, and they could move up if they are able to land a commit that just placed the Buckeyes in his top four schools.
Four-star linebacker Quinton Cypher seems to be planning to make his decision on his commitment early in his recruitment, and Ohio State fans will be happy if he picks the Buckeyes. Cypher announced he has narrowed his choices do to four: Georgia, Miami, Alabama, and Ohio State.
While Miami and Alabama are obviously strong programs that can also offer a lot of NIL money, if Cypher wants to go play for a very strong defense, this race feels like it is truly between Ohio State and Georgia.

4-star linebacker Quinton Cypher lists Ohio State in his top 4 schools
While it makes sense that Ohio State and Georgia would be the two favorites of the four schools mentioned above, Rivals recruiting insider Radi Nabulsi had information confirming the suspicion. Cypher also doesn't have an exact date set to announce his commitment, but he says it should be sometime later this week.

Cypher is currently the No. 192 player in the Class of 2027, the No. 11 linebacker in the class, and the No. 8 player in the state of North Carolina, according to 247Sports Composite. Ryan Day will have to battle Kirby Smart yet again on the recruiting field, but it feels like this is a deal that defensive coordinator Matt Patricia could close.
Ohio State's defense was No. 1 in almost every defensive category in the 2025 season, a lot of that thanks to Patricia's schemes. Cypher could choose the Buckeyes and learn from the best, and give himself the best shot at making it to the league one day with Ohio State.
