While the Ohio State football team currently holds one of the top 2026 recruiting classes in the country, Ryan Day is yet to land a standout signal-caller. The hope previously was that Jared Curtis would be the guy, but he's Georgia-bound instead.
Could a different 5-star playmaker end up being Columbus-bound? That's what plenty of people are hoping will be the case when it comes to Ryder Lyons. Of late, there hasn't been much buzz surrounding the Cali product and the Buckeyes.
However, the 6-2, 220-pounder recently revealed that he's getting closer to making his final decision. USC is of course high on his list, but the Trojans aren't the only ones. Ohio State remains in the mix - will Day surprise us all by landing Lyons' verbal?
Who will it be👀

5-star QB target Ryder Lyons is inching closer to making his college decision
As you can see, there are plenty of programs who continue to show high interest in the talented young QB. Throughout his recruitment, Lyons has picked up more than 30 offers. For now, he's set to take official visits to meet with both USC and Oregon.
Those two schools have long been considered the favorites. However, nothing will be over until Ryan Day decides it is. Imagine hypothetically that Lyons doesn't visit Ohio State this summer, but then the Buckeyes get him on campus for the season-opener vs. Texas.
You think he's not going to have an unreal time watching the best game of opening weekend in an incredible atmosphere at The Shoe? Yeah, he'll probably have one of the best days of his life. However, no trip has been set.
It will be on Day to try and get something finalized, but with the more time that passes, the more worried OSU fans will be about no QB being on board for '26. Lyons is the No. 5 QB in the country per the 247Sports Composite, the highest-rated signal-caller yet to shut down his recruitment. Ohio State may have a little catching up to do, but playing for the reigning national champs is always an easy sell.
