Ohio State football has an obvious off-the-field priority during the Week 4 bye

After a bit of a troubling win against Ohio in Week 3, the Ohio State Buckeyes will now get some time to rest and breathe before starting Big Ten play. Many believed that Ohio State would thump Ohio last weekend, but the Bobcats stuck around a bit more than expected.

It all worked out, though, as the Buckeyes got the win and will now get a much-needed break before the meat of their schedule begins. The players will get a chance to rest and heal from any lingering injuries, but the coaches should and will have a different job to do.

This is a week that the Ohio State coaching staff has to take advantage of. Ryan Day and his staff have to hit the road and try and grab a few more recruits this week in order to secure Ohio State's future.

The recruiting trail is calling Ohio State during its Week 4 bye week

Right now, according to 247Sports, Ohio State has the No. 9 recruiting class for 2026, which isn't bad, but the Buckeyes still have a chance to move even higher. Day needs to be out on the recruiting trail this week and weekend, working to get some guys that are either uncommitted or on flip watch.

The other piece of the puzzle is that Day can use this time to go out and try to build the Class of 2027. Right now, Ohio State has two recruits for 2027, four-star Jamier Brown and four-star Brady Edmunds. There are many 2027 recruits that have yet to make their decision, which is to be expected, but Day can go out and see if he can get some of them leaning Ohio State's way.

Right now, top 2027 recruit, Elijah Haven, a quarterback from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, is uncommitted. He is currently rated as a four-star quarterback, but will most likely have that five-star coming next year. He has yet to get an offer from Ohio State, so maybe this is the time for Day to go out and see what Haven has to offer.
