Ohio State football fans throwing beer on the field shows CFB has a problem
By Ryan Stano
The Ohio State football team almost lost to Nebraska. It was a game that they shouldn't have been that close. Nebraska was coming off a 56-7 loss to Indiana while the Buckeyes were coming off a bye week. There's no reason Ohio State shouldn't have crushed the Cornhuskers.
Ohio State football fans were not happy throughout the game. They booed the team several times after poor offensive series. The refs were subjected to the booing too. The officials were bad on both sides, but they made a horrendous targeting call on the final drive of the game.
They called a targeting call on Arvell Reese that could have changed the fabric of the game. It was a horrendous call and the fans were not having it. In fact, the fans were so mad that they started doing something that Texas fans did last week in an effort to get a call overturned.
Ohio State football fans throw things from the stands after a bad call
Buckeye fans started throwing beer and other objects on the field after the targeting call was upheld. They did this one week after Texas fans did something similar that resulted in the referees picking up a flag and changing a penalty call.
College football now has a problem on its hands. After Texas fans were allowed to do that last week without any repercussions, fans of other teams are doing the same thing. If it worked for the Longhorns, why won't it work for us? This won't be the last time this happens either.
That Pandora's Box has been opened. I'm not really sure what college football officials can do to keep this from happening. Either way, it was a bad look for Ohio State fans. They shouldn't do that no matter how bad the calls are on the field.
