The Ohio State football team has done a pretty good job of adding players in the transfer portal in the Ryan Day method. He has had very few misses in the portal, really only missing big with an offensive lineman this year. Other than that, his record is pretty good.
With James Franklin being fired at Penn State, the Ohio State Buckeyes could decide to go after some players from Penn State in the transfer portal. Players have 30 days from the firing of their coach to enter the portal if they want, but they also could wait until the normal portal window opens later in the year.
Regardless of when players decide to enter the Transfer Portal, the Buckeyes are hoping that these players decide to enter the portal. If they do, Ohio State should be considered the favorites for them, including one freshman who had Ohio State as a finalist in the 2025 recruiting class.
The Ohio State football team should try to steal these players from Penn State in the Transfer Portal
Chaz Coleman should be the first player that the Buckeyes look at if he enters the portal. Coleman is an edge player who had the Buckeyes as one of his finalists before signing with Penn State in December. He is from Warren, Ohio, and could decide to make the journey to Columbus.
Coleman is probably the player who has the biggest chance of transferring to Ohio State, but he's not the only one they should target. The Buckeyes should also try to bring in Malachi Goodman, who was a five-star offensive lineman in the 2025 recruiting class.
The Buckeyes would love to have both of these players on their roster heading into next season. They just have to wait and see if either of them wants to put their names into the portal. There might be a couple of other players who express interest in coming to Columbus.
Ryan Day might be the hottest coach in the country with how well the Buckeyes have been playing. These Penn State players will get an up-close look at that next month when the Nittany Lions come to Columbus.
