Ohio State could have used a better kicker in 2025. With a different kicker, the Buckeyes could have won a National Championship and maybe not dropped their first game of the College Football Playoff. However, head coach Ryan Day looks to be fixing that situation with a young kicker.
Cooper Peterson, a kicker out of North Carolina, has just committed to the Buckeyes out of the Class of 2026. Peterson, who visited with the Buckeyes in September, said that if he were given an offer by Ohio State, he would accept.
Well, Peterson kept his word and when Day gave him an offer, he was ready to say yes.
"I'm blessed to announce my commitment to play football and continue my academic career at The Ohio State University," Peterson said in his announcement on social media.
Ryan Day fixed Ohio State's Achilles Heel going forward
While many may not think that kicking is that big of a deal, it is when it ends up losing you big games during the season. Ohio State was one missed field goal away from having the road that Indiana had in the College Football Playoff.
While Peterson may not be a ranked recruit, Indiana showed this season that not every recruit has to be ranked. Peterson considers himself a long range kicker so that could help with te Buckeyes kicking woes from this season.
Day stuck with kicker Jayden Fielding throughout out the season, even with his struggles in the big mooments, but is is clear a change will be good for the Buckeyes, and hoping Peterson is ready for it all.
