The Ohio State football program has been much more aggressive in the Transfer Portal this past week. After letting several elite players head to other schools, they have finally started making moves. In the last few days, they have added several prospects.
The Buckeyes have added a couple of defensive linemen from Alabama to go along with a pair of All-ACC members of the secondary. Quite frankly, the Ohio State Buckeyes have been biding their time, waiting to use the NIL money they have to help out at certain positions.
After finally landing a kicker, the Buckeyes once again turned their attention to the secondary. After losing several cornerbacks to the Transfer Portal, they needed to replenish that room. They did that by grabbing a player who actually started his career with TTUN.
Ohio State football team lands a commitment from Cam Calhoun
Former Alabama, Utah, and Michigan cornerback Cam Calhoun has chosen to play for the Buckeyes. Calhoun is certainly well-traveled, so he has a wealth of experience with P4 players. He didn't play much for the Crimson Tide this past season, only recording six tackles. Calhoun played more at Utah.
Calhoun is not going to start next season. Jermaine Mathews returns, and they will likely use Earl Little Jr. as a nickel cornerback. Calhoun has a chance to compete with Devin Sanchez for the other outside corner spot, but Sanchez will likely be the starter based on how he played this year.
In any case, rebuilding the depth at corner is something important for Ohio State to do. Having multiple players that the Buckeyes can turn to if injuries happen is extremely important, and that's the role that Calhoun will fill with them this season.
Ohio State isn't done making moves in the portal, either. They still need to add a running back, and adding an offensive lineman wouldn't be a bad idea, either. They could be close to adding another receiver to the room as well after losing five from this year's roster.
