Ohio State's loss to Miami in the Quarterfinal of the College Football Playoff was not expected, and it certainly didn't make Buckeyes fans happy. After the entire debate on whether or not Miami actually deserved to be in the playoff, it felt like this game was a lock for Ohio State.
Instead, the Buckeyes just looked like they lacked energy and firepower, which in turn was their downfall. Miami made the plays it needed to in order to secure the victory. Of course, with any loss, fans always want to find someone to blame, and in this case, the usual suspect always ends up being the head coach.
After the losses to Michigan in recent years, Ohio State fans would routinely call for head coach Ryan Day's job. Well, with the Buckeyes beating the Wolverines this year, fans weren't able to do their annual call for Day's job.
However, they were able to get it in just before the year ended in 2025, as once Ohio State fell to Miami, there were fans who were actually calling for Day's job.
Fans calling for Ryan Day's job may want to get their head checked
Ryan Day has been so successful at Ohio State that fans may not realize just how lucky they are to have him. Someone may want to remind fans calling for Day's job that he literally won a National Championship with the Buckeyes last season.
He has also consistently brought in elite recruits in order to make Ohio State as competitive as possible each and every season.
Ryan Day’s Ohio State:

• Consistently elite recruiting.
• Consistently elite off the field.
• Consistently elite on the field.
You can’t win it all every year.
82-12 is still absolutely ridiculous.
This tweet above it is right, teams can't win it all every year. Just look at Nick Saban at Alabama, the Crimson Tide were competitive each and every season he was there, but sometimes they just didn't win it all.
Day is building a program just like that right now, and there are going to be great years and some down years that would also be considered great. Fans need to chill with the hot-seat comments about Ryan Day because if he left, Ohio State would certainly be in some trouble.
