The Ohio State football team had a dominant defensive performance against the Huskies of Washington last weekend. They won the game 24-6 and still haven't allowed a red zone touchdown this season. They might have a better defense than they did last year, thanks to Matt Patricia.
Perhaps the best performance from Saturday was from defensive end Caden Curry. Curry was dominant from the start of the game, finishing the game with nine solo tackles, four tackles for loss, and three sacks. It was the best game of his career, as he could not be blocked.
Curry is hoping to keep that going this weekend against the Golden Gophers of Minnesota as they come to town. His performance was good enough for him to take home a weekly award, something he's never done with the Ohio State Buckeyes in his career.
Ohio State DE Caden Curry wins Lott Trophy Impact Player of the Week
The Lott Trophy announced that Curry had won their Player of the Week Award for Week 5 in college football. Curry should be happy that he gets this award, but he knows there are bigger things on the horizon. He wants to win back-to-back national championships.
If Curry keeps playing at this high level, he has a chance to win the Lott Trophy at the end of the season. His play on the outside is going to be a big part of why the Buckeyes have success against some of their toughest opponents. Defensive end was a concern coming into this season.
The Buckeyes have the best defense in the country up to this point. They will face another test in a couple of weeks when they head to Illinois for their second road game of the year. They are completely focused on this weekend against Minnesota first.
Curry has proven that he can be a top performer on a great defense.
