Ohio State basketball schedules home-and-home series vs UConn

Jake Diebler and the Buckeye basketball team have added a marquee opponent to their non-conference schedule.

The non-conference schedule for the Ohio State basketball team has gotten even more difficult after adding another strong opponent to it.

According to Adam Jardy of the Columbus Dispatch, Ohio State will begin a home-and-home series with UConn starting this 2026-27 season. The series will start with the first leg on the road for the Buckeyes, and then a return game with the Huskies will be played in Columbus the following season in 2027-28.

UConn is one of the top-tier programs currently in College Basketball. They have been to three of the last four National Championship games, winning back-to-back championships in 2023 and 2024. They most recently lost in the title game this past season to Michigan.

This game adds to an already loaded non-conference schedule for the Ohio State Basketball team. The Buckeyes will open the 2026-27 season in Salt Lake City, taking on BYU. They already had a road game scheduled in South Bend against Notre Dame for the return game of the series they started last season. Then they will play Kansas in the CBS Sports Classic at Madison Square Garden.

It's been a while since the Buckeyes and Huskies squared off, with the last time coming in 2016-17. The game was in Columbus, which was also part of a home-and-home series, and Ohio State won that game 64-60. It wasn't a game to remember in Storrs in 2015-16 as UConn handled the Buckeyes in a 75-55 loss.

This series with UConn gives Ohio State huge opportunities against one of the best programs in the sport. For this upcoming season, UConn is expected to a Preseason top 10 team. They return key pieces from their run to the National Championship game with Braylon Mullins and Silas Demary Jr., plus a strong transfer and freshmen class to help strengthen their roster.

It's encouraging to see Jake Diebler schedule these big marquee games even with the expansion to the NCAA Tournament. It shows that playing in meaningful regular-season games and building a quality tournament resume still matters, despite all the changes coming to the sport.

The full non-conference schedule for Ohio State is still being put together, but I'd expect them to get another high-major program added to the schedule. Jake Diebler clearly wants his team to compete with the best, so I wouldn't be surprised if it's another marquee game.
