The Ohio State football program had one of the most iconic moments in college football history back in the 2014 season. In the Sugar Bowl, the Buckeyes took down Alabama 42-35 on New Year's Day in 2015 to advance to the first-ever College Football Playoff National Championship Game.
In that game, Ezekiel Elliott had one of the best runs in the history of the Ohio State Buckeyes. He ran the ball 85 yards for a touchdown in what is known as "Running 85 yards through the heart of the South". That play sealed a Buckeye victory and made it so they are played for a national title.
Every single Buckeye fan knows that play by heart. It was one of the seminal moments in recent Ohio State football history. That play was referenced on Friday following the conclusion of the Armed Forces Bowl during an interview with Navy quarterback Blake Horvath.
Navy quarterback mentions iconic Ohio State football play from national championship run
In the game, Horvath had a school-record 95-yard touchdown run. In his post-game interview, he mentioned how he was an Ohio State fan and he was thinking about Elliott's run against Alabama in that game against Alabama. Take a look at the clip below.
It's very cool to see Horvath, who ran for 155 yards and two touchdowns against Oklahoma to give the Midshipmen a 21-20 victory. Horvath is a native of Hilliard, Ohio, so of course, he grew up watching and rooting for the Buckeyes. Following his college playing days, he will service out country.
There's very little doubt that he will be tuning into the Rose Bowl on New Year's Day to watch the Buckeyes take on the Oregon Ducks in a rematch. Let's see if Ohio State can have another iconic moment in a CFP game.
