Major red flag just arrived for Ohio State's Caleb Downs leading up to the NFL Draft

Something like this could drop Caleb Downs' NFL Draft stock.

The NFL Combine was very kind to Ohio State players, as many were able to raise their draft stock over the week. Linebacker Sonny Styles probably raised his stock the most of any Buckeye at the combine, while medical tests could have just dropped the stock of safety Caleb Downs.

Down didn't really work out at the NFL Combine, but still did testing and met with interested teams. Many didn't think that Downs would test during the combine anyway, which is why being flagged has kind of flown under the radar.

Corey Kinnan from Daft on Draft reported that Downs was flagged for a partially torn meniscus, which is not totally concerning, but being flagged for a potentially degenerative ACL is something that could be.

How much could a flagged medical check affect Caleb Downs' NFL Draft stock?

A flagged medical check at the NFL Combine is not something any draft prospect wants to hear, but it also isn't the end of the world, depending on why it was flagged. For Downs, a partially torn meniscus is something he can rehab before the season starts, but the degenerative ACL is a bit concerning.

While many players have been flagged for this type of problem, it is not something that should completely derail Downs' draft stock. Downs was being looked at to go potentially top five, but now some teams towards the end of the top 10 and even early top 15 could get their shot at bringing in Downs.

The ACL problem is one that NFL teams are going to take notice of as those tears seem to be more common as of late than not. Downs can work to help the problem, but there will always be that woner of if and when it could tear.

Downs shouldn't drop any futher than the middle of the draft for this flag, but as any good player would, he will most likely get a second opinion and get checked again to make sure this is all truly the case.
