College GameDay has been synonymous with college football for almost three decades now. The show has been heading to the best game in the country every week for quite a while. More than a few times, they've been there for an Ohio State football game.
In fact, the very first time that Lee Corso put on a mascot head was while he was in Columbus. Brutus was the first mascot head that he ever donned, and he has been doing it ever since. He has chosen Brutus several times over the years while being on-site for Buckeye games.
Corso will now have one final time that he will be able to do it. College GameDay announced that his final show will be on August 30th when the Buckeyes take on the Longhorns, which is where GameDay will likely be. It will be the final time that Corso will appear on the show after an incredible run on TV.
Lee Corso's final College GameDay appearance will be at an Ohio State football game
At the age of 90, Corso is finally retiring after a four-decade run on the show. He has become one of the most beloved figures in college football. Now, it looks like his long run is finally coming to an end, as it probably should. He has been dealing with some health issues.
Corso was noticeably absent from several shows last year. At his age, it's very hard for him to be able to attend every show and still have the energy and the mental acuity that the show requires. He's making the right time stepping away at this point in his career.
It's fitting that Corso will end his mascot-donning at the same place that he first put on the mascot head. There's a very good chance that he puts Brutus on once the game rolls around, as well. Corso loves putting Brutus on.
There will certainly be a lot of fanfare around his final appearance. There will be a ton of tributes from everyone at ESPN, as there should be. Corso is a legend, and his contributions to college football should be celebrated.
