The Ohio State football program has had multiple players enter the transfer portal since it opened last Monday. Each year, the Buckeyes expect to lose about 15% of the roster according to head coach Ryan Day. So far, the numbers have been lower than that.
The Ohio State Buckeyes have lost two players at the same position to the portal in the last few days, though. Both Devin Brown and Air Noland have entered the portal. Brown entered but will stay with the team for the CFP run, while Noland will just enter the portal immediately.
Noland entering the portal is a bit more surprising than having Brown enter. Brown knew that he had no future as the starting quarterback. He's also almost out of eligibility. It makes sense for him to leave because he wants to play. Noland is just a freshman and was going to be battling for that starting spot next season.
With Air Noland's transfer, the Ohio State football team's QB future is quite clear
It's clear what the Buckeyes think of Noland compared to the other options they have on the roster. They clearly like Julian Sayin and Tavien St. Clair more than they like what Noland can give them. Lincoln Kienholz was also ahead of Noland on the depth chart for most of the season.
Those are now the only three scholarship quarterbacks that the Ohio State football team has on the roster. They might have to go into the portal to grab someone just to increase the depth at that spot. It's clear that the future starting quarterback is either Sayin or St. Clair, and it's likely Sayin.
Whoever the quarterback is going to be next year needs some players who can actually block for him. Ohio State has struck out on the transfer portal so far. They need to start making headway, especially with some offensive linemen.
