The Ohio State football team took on Tennessee in the Shoe in the first round of the College Football Playoff. They were able to beat them down 42-17 in a game that was never close. The Buckeyes even jumped out to an early 21-0 lead. Throughout the game, Buckeye fans heard some odd commentary from one of the guys calling the game.

Former Buckeye quarterback Kirk Herbstreit was on the call with Chris Fowler. Normally, when he does Buckeye games, I quite like what Herbstreit does. He is able to call the game being completely unbiased in either direction and does a good job calling the game.

On Saturday night, the complete opposite was true. Herby was making some horrendous points and almost seemed to be rooting against the Buckeyes at various points in the game. A lot of fans of the Ohio State Buckeyes made comments about how bad he was.

Kirk Herbstreit makes odd comments about the Ohio State football team

At various times throughout the game, Herbstreit made comments that were just plain at odds with what was happening on the field. Fowler argued with him multiple times, including during the horrendous roughing the passer penalty that was called that negated an Ohio State interception.

When Tennessee got their own interception, both Fowler and the referee consultant that ESPN hired did not think it was a pick while Herbstreit was adamant it was. That wasn't the oddest part of the game either. That came at the end when it was clear Ohio State was going to win.

I have no idea what made Herbstreit so mad with Ohio State. Is it the fact that they didn't offer a scholarship to his son so he had to go to Michigan? Is it still resentment from years in the past? I have no idea, but this was completely unprofessional.

Ohio State football fans will likely have to listen to him for more CFP games that the Buckeyes play this season. The mute button might be necessary for those games if he's going to keep doing this.
