In case you missed it, Oklahoma's John Mateer, one of the leading Heisman favorites, is set to have surgery on his right hand, due to an injury he suffered this past weekend in Oklahoma's win over Auburn, according to head coach Brent Venables. The timetable for return, with the "straightforward surgery", according to ESPN's Pete Thamel, is about a month.

Mateer has amassed 1,215 yards in his four games this year, which include a win over then-ranked No. 15 Michigan on September 6th, and this weekend's 24-17 win over No. 22 Auburn. He's thrown for six touchdowns thus far with three interceptions as well, and sat in the top five of many betting sites' Heisman favorites after the performance over Oklahoma's SEC foe this weekend.

With Mateer being out of action for four or so games (depending on his return), what does that spell for Buckeye Jeremiah Smith and his efforts to grab the nation's highest honor in college football?

Well, we've seen him be kind of a Swiss Army Knife of sorts for Ohio State, which adds to his pedigree for the award. However, his odds had fallen from around +1000 in the preseason to +1500 just two days ago on FanDuel.

That changed with Mateer's news, though. Smith bumped up to +1100 quickly, tied with Oregon's Dante Moore.

We'll see what Smith can do this weekend against Washington, alongside teammate Justin Sayin, who is currently at +1600 odds, against the Huskies for Ohio State's first away game of the year. It's Ohio State's first road trip to Husky Stadium since 2007.

The Smith family had a big weekend this weekend, too, with Jeremiah's little brother, Angelo, verbally committing to follow in his brother's footsteps to play for the Buckeyes. He's a 5-8, 160-pound three-star recruit out of Florida, listed as an ATH, which often means a player plays both sides of the ball. He primarily plays safety.
