Jets show total incompetence by passing on Ohio State star at No. 2 overall

After weeks of speculation about whether the Jets would be Arvell Reese or Texas Tech pass rusher David Bailey, the Jets did the most Jets thing ever and went with the one-dimensional Bailey over the versatile future All-Pro in Reese.

Reese, however, will play at MetLife Stadium because he was selected by the Giants at No. 5. There's a reason why one franchise has four Super Bowl trophies and the other is the Jets. At the end of the day, Reese still wins, and the Jets can chalk another loss to the many they've had over the years.

Charlie Baduini of The Jets Press writes:

""Did the Jets really need another pass rush specialist? Bailey is phenomenal at getting after the quarterback, of course, but his biggest weakness is against the run. Sound familiar? Will McDonald, New York's first-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, isn't a replica of Bailey or anything, but they have similar strengths and weaknesses. McDonald is a speed rusher who banks on his first step to overwhelm opposing linemen to get sacks. So does Bailey.""

Jets draft David Bailey over Arvell Reese in a head scratcher

As Baduini said, the Jets already have a good pass rusher that can't stop the run. And they just drafted Will McDonald IV a few years ago. And before that, they drafted Jermaine Johnson, who was recently traded to the Titans. How often can a team make the same mistakes over and over again? That would be as silly as trading Sam Darnold or drafting Zach Wilson.

The good news is that with both Bailey and Reese in the same market, they will be compared to each other every waiting second of the day. Every snap. Every big play. Every mistake. It's all going to be on the back pages in  the New York City tabloids. And the Jets will get constant reminders of another draft-day blunder.

Again, there's no reason to cry for Reese. He is in the best situation possible. John Harbaugh is by far the best guy named Harbaugh coaching in the NFL right now and the Giants always figure it out. As for the Jets, my guess is, come October it'll be an acronym for 'Just end the season."
