The Ohio State football team had to suddenly find a new running backs coach in the middle of Spring practice in 2024. Tony Alford left to go to TTUN, so the Buckeyes needed a new guy to come in. The timing was certainly not ideal, because the team was practicing.
The Ohio State Buckeyes went out and made a fantastic hire. They grabbed Carlos Locklyn from Oregon to take Alford's spot on the staff. Alford helped TreVeyon Henderson and Quinshon Judkins reach their peaks as players, and ultimately helped the team win the national championship.
En route to that national title, the Buckeyes took down Oregon in the Rose Bowl. It was revenge for a loss they suffered in the regular season. It seems that the Ducks are still smarting from that loss because they have just decided to sue Locklyn over how he left Eugene.
Ohio State football coach Carlos Locklyn is getting sued by Oregon
Locklyn is being sued by Oregon for breach of contract over his buyout after leaving the Ducks. According to OregonLive, the Ducks claim that his buyout was $400,000. Locklyn and his legal team claim that Ohio State paid $200,000 towards that and that he tried to pay $200,000 himself, but Oregon declined the check.
The Buckeyes haven't made a statement about the lawsuit. It seems that Oregon is trying to find more money to fund their exorbitant NIL fund. Of course, all of this is alleged, with nothing having been proven in the court of law on either Oregon or Locklyn's side.
Locklyn isn't going to let this distract him from focusing on doing whatever it takes to repeat as national champions. He has proven to be a great coach with current players on the roster, as well as a great recruiter. The freshmen he brought in during the 2025 recruiting class look great already.
There are still six months before the 2025 college football season starts, so there is plenty of time to get this cleared up before the Buckeyes take the field against Texas. I'm sure this is something Locklyn and the Buckeyes won't forget if they end up facing each other in the Big Ten Championship.
