The Ohio State football team is very talented, coming off a national championship. They have a very talented offense that will be very tough to beat. The Buckeyes might have the best player in college football in Jeremiah Smith, and that will make them dangerous on their own.
Just because they have a talented offense doesn't mean that they don't have any weaknesses. In fact, the biggest weakness for the Buckeyes was on full display during the spring game. The defensive line was not able to get any pressure on the quarterback in that game.
The Ohio State Buckeyes decided to try to fix that weakness by heading to the transfer portal in search of help. They were able to get Beau Atkinson from North Carolina to help with their pass rushing. They have a chance to turn this weakness into a strength thanks in part to adding him.
How the Ohio State football team can turn their pass rush into a strength
Adding Atkinson alone won't turn their pass rush into a strength. They have to get production from other players up front, too. Getting good play from the defensive tackles is the big key to changing this weakness. Kayden McDonald and Eddrick Houston need to be better than they were in the spring game.
Matt Patricia can help with that, as well. His play-calling on defense can help the defensive line scheme up some ways to get to the quarterback more easily. Of course, the defensive line needs to be able to stop the run, too. Sonny Styles and the linebackers can help with that.
While Ohio State football fans should be worried about the defensive line, the Buckeyes should be able to get that unit playing solid football by the time Big Ten play begins. They just have to hope they can overcome that against Texas.
