The Ohio State football program has struggled to bring in players from the Transfer Portal. Despite the fact that they have lost 30 players to the portal, they have only brought in five players so far. It has been the worst use of the portal since it became a thing a few years ago.
Yet, the Ohio State Buckeyes continue to bring in high-profile players for visits. In fact, the latest rumor is that the Buckeyes were the favorites to land a great running back from the Transfer Portal. Nate Frazier, a former Georgia running back, had Ohio State out front.
Unfortunately, just like every other high-profile player, it seems Ohio State is just being used as leverage. It looks like Frazier might be using the Buckeyes to drive the price up on Georgia, so they can pay him more to return to Athens next season.
Georgia insider believes Ohio State won't land Georgia running back Nate Frazier
According to Rusty Mansell of Dawg HQ, the Buckeyes might not have a chance to bring in Frazier. He believes the Bulldogs have a shot to bring him back. That would be yet another player who has used the Buckeyes as leverage to score a higher payday elsewhere.
It never seems that Ohio State is able to use other schools as leverage to land high-profile players. That once again falls on the shoulders of AD Ross Bjork. He is the biggest issue when it comes to using NIL to build the roster. He has been a disaster at each turn.
If Ohio State doesn't land Frazier, they will have to go back to the drawing board at the running back position. The room is getting thin with James Peoples and Sam Dixon entering the portal. Other than Bo Jackson and Isaiah West, they have almost no depth at all.
Ohio State is in serious need of a revamp of its Transfer Portal policies.
