Ohio State Buckeyes running backs coach Carlos Locklyn has long-standing ties with Baylor Red Raiders (TN) RB David Gabriel-Georges, dating all the way back to Locklyn's time with the Oregon Ducks.

As Baylor head coach Erik Kimrey noted during an interview with Cleveland.com's Andrew Gillis, the Quebec native, who's been tearing it up in Division II-AAA in Chattanooga, Tennessee, has been in regular contact with Locklyn as the 2027 Buckeyes target weighs a decision. Kimrey stopped short of saying Gabriel-Georges was going to the Ohio State University for sure, hedging a bit with a line about loving the star RB wherever he goes.

“They’ve been great... Carlos (Locklyn) was David’s first offer when Carlos was out of Oregon. And I actually sent him the film, and I said, ‘Hey, buddy, you need to check this out.’ And so they’ve had a relationship for a long time, but I think that they’ve done a wonderful job developing the relationship with David. At the end of the day, we love David. He’s going to be a Baylor Red Raider for the rest of his life. I don’t care where he goes to school. I just want him to have a great career," Gillis said.

Oregon offered DGG in February 2024, just a month and a half before Locklyn was hired at OSU. It took about that long after Locklyn settled into his new home before Gabriel-Georges received an offer from the Scarlet and Gray that May. DGG now has over 30 collegiate offers, though he is down to a handful of schools for his decision, set to take place on July 22. Interestingly enough, the Ducks are no longer in the mix. It's hard not to surmise what that could mean, since Locklyn was the reason for the interest from Eugene in the first place.

Ohio State could have 2 freaks at RB in 2027 if David Gabriel-Georges commits

Kimrey described Gabriel-Georges' freakish nature -- a 4.38 40-yard dash, a 400-pound bench press, and a 600-pound squat -- that could have two physical specimens in the RB room during the 2027 season.

True freshman Legend Bey, who could be a factor in the RB room this fall, ran a 4.33 40, benches 300 pounds, and squats 500. The speed is even more elite than Gabriel-Georges', while the strength is still significant, even if it's not what the Red Raiders star possesses.

Those two in the same room, potentially with Bo Jackson and Isaiah West, some of the projected stars of Arthur Smith's run-heavy offensive mindset in 2026, could make Ohio State lethal on the ground and through the air. Tavien St. Clair is expected to take the QB1 job after Julian Sayin hopefully carves out significant NFL interest over the next half-year. St. Clair showed a firm grasp of Smith's offense at the spring game.

Right now, the Buckeyes sit in an advantageous position over the home-state Tennessee Volunteers, Ole Miss Rebels, and Georgia Bulldogs for DGG. Bey was a Tennessee commit coming out of the Lone Star State, but like with his recruitment, Gabriel Georges looks likely to land in Columbus.
