Former top-ranked Ohio State football player enters the transfer portal yet again
By Ryan Stano
The 2022 class for the Ohio State football team is starting to look like a bad recruiting class. They've had more than a few players enter the transfer portal since they started out in Columbus. We already know that the class has gone 0-4 against TTUN, which is a big blow to the legacy.
One of the players who was in that 202 recruiting class was cornerback JK Johnson. Johnson was supposed to be one of the cornerbacks who could take over once the Ohio State Buckeyes graduated a few guys. Johnson was expected to be a big part of the secondary.
Instead, Johnson decided to transfer out of Ohio State and head to LSU. After not seeing the field in 2023, he had just three tackles this past season. With his eligibility about to run out, Johnson has decided to enter the transfer portal for the second time in his collegiate career.

We are seeing this phenomenon more often in today's college football. Players are getting into the portal multiple times in their careers. What used to be a tool to look for more playing time has now become a tool to try and get the most NIL money while in school.
With Johnson entering the portal with so little film, he would be lucky to stay in the Power 4 in his next go-round. Had he stayed with Ohio State, he might have had a chance to see the field in 2023. Instead, he left for what he thought was greener pastures.
Johnson has a lot of talent. He was a former four-star recruit, so a team will definitely bring him in. He played a little bit as a redshirt freshman in 2022. In those limited snaps, he showed some flashes of being a good player. Now, his collegiate career is winding down.
