When he was with the Ohio State football program, Marvin Harrison Jr. was one of the best receivers in school history. He was the best offensive player that the Buckeyes had in the 2023 season, and it led to him winning the Biletnikoff Award as the best receiver in the country.
However, Harrison Jr. has struggled in the NFL. He was the fourth overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. He was expected to be an immediate impact player. However, he has struggled to live up to the billing. Now, he has been traded to another team to continue his career.
Marvin Harrison Jr. gets traded away from the Cardinals
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter and Ian Rapoport, the former Buckeye is being traded away for at least a second-round pick. At this point, it is unclear which team he is heading to. Schefter speculated that he could be headed to Houston to play for the Texans.
The Texans are in dire need of a receiver, and C.J. Stroud was his quarterback for a year. He certainly had a connection with him in the Rose Bowl against Utah, when Harrison Jr. had three touchdown receptions. Texans fans would love to have him play in Houston.
There were several teams that were interested in Harrison Jr.'s services. The Colts are not the team that traded for him, according to Stephen Holder of ESPN. As a Colts fan, it would have been poetic to have him play in Indy, as his father was one of the best players in franchise history.
I don't think it makes sense for Harrison Jr. to head to Houston. They are 0-4, and they have no shot to make the playoffs this season. Stroud is also in a contract year. I think he could head to Cleveland. The Browns are actually somewhat competitive this season, and they are currently in first place in the AFC North.
Marvin Harrison Jr. can resurrect his career at his new destination
Harrison Jr. needs to lock in and change his effort level on his next team. The Buckeyes wouldn't have settled for him loafing around and not running routes hard, which is what he's done in his NFL career thus far. If he plays for a team that has a shot to make the playoffs, that should increase his effort level.
For Arizona to give up this early on someone who is supposed to be a generational prospect is distressing. He should be much better than he has been so far. However, he hasn't played with a good quarterback yet. That is something that might help him become better.
Ohio State football fans have been trying to prop up Harrison Jr. over the last few years. Harrison Jr. has the physical tools to be a great receiver for years to come. He just needs to put it all together and get to work. This also might be his last chance to truly be an impact player. If he gets traded again, it might be over.
