Ohio State football fans have a complicated relationship with Jaxon Smith-Njigba. He seemed to quit on the team back during the 2022 team. He decided not to play for the team as they were gearing up for a run to the College Football Playoff, despite the fact that he was reportedly healthy.
Since that moment, some fans have been out on him. A segment of the fanbase still loves him. Regardless of how the fanbase feels about him, the Buckeyes can certainly use him to help with their recruiting efforts. That's especially true with how well he has been playing this season.
Smith-Njigba has been the best receiver in the NFL up to this point. So far this season, he is leading the NFL in receiving by almost 300 yards. In fact, he recently set some NFL history over the weekend after having another stellar effort.
Former Ohio State football player Jaxon Smith-Njiba sets NFL history
After having another 100+ yard performance against the Rams, Smith-Njigba became the first player in NFL history to record 75+ receiving yards in 10 straight games, according to Dianna Russini. He continues to be the best offensive player that the Seahawks have on the roster, dominating in every single game.
The Ohio State Buckeyes will still use JSN to help bring in more elite receiver recruits in the next few years. It's clear that Brian Hartline is a big reason why Smith-Njigba was able to develop into this kind of player. Ohio State develops first-round receivers every single year, and he is another one of those.
With his help, Seattle is now 7-3 and sitting pretty for a playoff spot. Smith-Njigba is Sam Darnold's favorite target, and he continues to produce well for him. Seattle looks like one of the most dangerous teams in the league with playoff time approaching in the next six weeks.
