Former Ohio State football player Quinshon Judkins has not had the ideal start to his NFL career. After he was a second-round pick by the Cleveland Browns, he had a lot of expectations that he was going to be heavily involved in the Browns' run game right away.
Judkins decided to hold out and not sign his NFL contract. He was looking for more guaranteed money as a second-round pick. That ended up being a bad move after he was arrested on charges of domestic violence back in July while he was down in Florida.
It looked like Judkins was in some serious trouble after that happened, especially with the fact that he hadn't signed his deal. His NFL career was in danger of ending before it had even started. Luckily for him, it looks like he won't be facing any discipline stemming from that incident.
Former Ohio State football player Quinshon Judkins won't face charges for his arrest
Judkins has learned that he won't be facing charges for his role in the incident. The DA in Florida has cited a lack of evidence as the reason for not bringing formal charges against Judkins. That means that he can put the incident behind him and get back to football.
The bad news for Judkins is that he has lost any leverage he had in his holdout. He needs to sign his contract so he can get back to work and have a shot at playing this preseason. If Judkins wants to have any chance of being the starting running back this season, or even getting significant snaps, he has to be on the field.
Judkins showed in his only year with the Ohio State Buckeyes that he can be a dynamic runner and pass catcher out of the backfield. He's a dual-threat guy who can break down defenses, doing whatever is necessary. Judkins is also a great blocker, as he's shown the ability to really thump defenders.
Cleveland is going to have perhaps the worst quarterback situation in the NFL. That means they are going to lean heavily on the run game. Judkins has the opportunity to earn a lot of snaps in his rookie season. He needs to put this incident behind him and try to focus on football.
The Buckeyes only had good things to say about him leading up to the draft process. He needs to prove them right.
