As the Ohio State football team continues to move along in the College Football Playoff, some former Buckeyes are starting to make transfer decisions. There were a handful of players who had decided to enter the transfer portal prior to the College Football Playoff starting.

One of those players was safety Jayden Bonsu. Bonsu was a member of the 2023 recruiting class for the Ohio State Buckeyes. He came from Miami and was actually a recruit that Ohio State was able to flip from the Hurricanes. Bonsu entered the portal following the end of the regular season.

Since then, Bonsu has been taking visits across the country, trying to find a home to continue his college football career. He has now made a final decision on which school he will attend for the next few years, and it will be a school in the ACC.

Former Ohio State football player Jayden Bonsu transfers to Pittsburgh

Bonsu has decided to transfer to Pitt. He believes they give him the best chance to develop as a player and also give him the most immediate playing time. He is someone who has plenty of talent, so he thinks he can contribute for the Panthers right away.

The safety room is a little thin heading into next season behind Caleb Downs. Lathan Ransom will be gone. The Buckeyes do like Jaylen McClain as someone who could be the starter next season. Malik Hartford has also gotten some snaps, so Bonsu's opportunities were going to be limited.

We wish Bonsu nothing but the best as he continues his college football journey. While it's unlikely that he starts next season, he definitely could start for the Panthers in the 2026 season. That would have been a stretch had he stayed in Columbus for that long. He mad the right choice to enter the portal.
