The Ohio State football team was ecstatic to upgrade from Kyle McCord last season. After the 2023 season, Ryan Day essentially told him to take a hike. The Ohio State Buckeyes brought in Will Howard, and he led them to the national championship last season.

McCord transferred to Syracuse, where he certainly threw the ball a lot. He also threw plenty of interceptions, including five in just one game. He was eventually drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in the sixth round of the 2025 NFL Draft. McCord is trying to make the team.

McCord has tried to do the best he can with the limited reps he's been getting during training camp. On Friday night, the Eagles played their final preseason game. He played the entire game for the Eagles and looked just as bad as Buckeye fans remember him being.

Former Ohio State football player Kyle McCord throws an absolute duck in his final preseason game

In McCord's final chance to show that he deserves to make the team, he didn't make a very good final impression. In this game, he was just 15/35 for 136 yards and threw one of the worst interceptions you'll find anyone throw.

This throw had no chance of being completed. It was a wounded duck down the field that essentially amounted to a punt. McCord threw some of these while he played for the Buckeyes, and it's one of the reasons why Day wanted a new starting quarterback for the 2024 season.

McCord didn't look very good in any of the preseason games he played, going 24/56 for 191 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions. Completing under 43% of your passes won't get it done in the NFL, so it's unlikely that he will have a job with the Eagles on opening day.

The Buckeyes certainly dodged a bullet by not making the mistake of keeping McCord on the roster. He never understood the magnitude of the Ohio State/Michigan rivalry, and didn't seem to care about what that game means to the fans. He needed to go, and it was best for all parties involved.

It's unclear what McCord's future holds at this point. He likely will be cut, but there's a chance he gets picked up to be placed on a practice squad somewhere. He does have some talent, but he just doesn't make good decisions sometimes. That's something he has to fix.
