When you transfer out of a program, you are taking a big risk. There is a chance that you might not get what you bargained for. Ohio State football players know this, as well. When they leave the Buckeyes, they understand that the grass might not always be greener.

Former Ohio State running back Sam Dixon is learning that lesson the hard way. We told you about his arrest and subsequent suspension from South Carolina. Dixon was arrested on several charges and was already in a bad place before having played a single game for the Gamecocks.

Now, things have gone from bad to worse for the former Buckeye. Not only is Dixon suspended from the team, but things have also actually escalated. Dixon has now been dismissed from the program before even taking a single snap as an actual member of the team.

Former Ohio State RB dimsissed from South Carolina

Dixon left the Ohio State Buckeyes in January shortly after the loss in the Cotton Bowl to Miami. Dixon believed that he had a better chance of finding playing time elsewhere. He was right to think he wasn't going to find much in Columbus, as he had been passed up on the depth chart.

Unfortunately for him, his arrest has now likely cost him a chance to play college football this season. After being dismissed, he has no chance to play collegiately this season. He is stuck with the consequences of his own actions, which are pretty severe based on the allegations from the police.

According to the police, Dixon was essentially breaking into cars and stealing things. He was arrested on three counts of larceny/breaking into motor vehicles, three counts of criminal conspiracy, and one count of grand larceny with a value of more than $2,000 but less than $10,000.

It's unlikely Sam Dixon plays in major college fotball again

At this point, it would be extremely surprising to see Dixon ever get a shot to play at the P4 level again. This incident may prove to be the nail in the coffin of his major college football hopes. In turn, that could end any shot that he has of making the NFL, as well.

This is a disappointing turn of events for Dixon. He is a local kid, hailing from Pickerington. He thought he was going to have a shot to make an impact, and clearly, he was better off staying closer to home. Perhaps his family could have helped him from making poor decisions.

Now, Dixon will likely leave South Carolina for another school. At this point, he should just focus on getting his degree. That might be his best chance moving forward. Of course, there is always a chance that a lower-level school could give him a chance to be their new running back.

In any case, Dixon is no longer with the Ohio State Buckeyes and is no longer their problem. Hopefully, Dixon is able to get some help and learn from these mistakes moving forward.
