The Ohio State football program will be taking on Texas in the first game of the season. The Buckeyes are the final team that the Longhorns faced last season in the Cotton Bowl, so they are looking for some revenge. They have had to think about that loss all offseason.
Now, the Buckeyes will take them on at the Shoe with home-field advantage. Both teams have lost a lot of starters from a year ago, but the Ohio State Buckeyes have lost some depth, as well. In fact, they will be facing a former player after he decided to transfer to the Longhorns in the offseason.
Defensive lineman Hero Kanu will be suiting up in the opposing locker room for the first time in his career. Kanu decided to hit the transfer portal after the Buckeyes won the national championship. He will now try to beat Ohio State, and he might have an advantage in this matchup.
Former Ohio State football player Hero Kanu could hurt the Buckeyes in the season opener
Kanu played in practice against Julian Sayin in practice all last year. He knows how the Ohio State quarterback likes to play the position. Not only that, but he knows how the starting offensive linemen like to block, as well. He will help the Longhorns in their game planning.
Had Kanu decided to stay with the Ohio State Buckeyes, he might have been able to compete for a starting spot on the defensive line. The Buckeyes lost their entire starting defensive line in the offseason, so Kanu could have make a push to be one o the starters.
Instead, he will try to make an impact for Texas in the first game of the season. Kanu would have been a nice piece of depth for the Buckeyes, but now, they will try to beat him.
