The Ohio State football program has had to deal with a lot of players leaving in the Transfer Portal. So far, none of them have been major contributors, although the Buckeyes did lose a starter on the offensive line. Still, he was likely not going to start next year, anyway.
Cornerback Bryce West was one of the players who left for the portal. The sophomore cornerback was unable to make much of an impact in his two seasons with the Ohio State Buckeyes. He totaled just 10 tackles in two years, and most of those were on special teams.
West is a former four-star recruit, so he definitely has some talent. He didn't last long in the Transfer Portal, as he has already made a decision on his future. West has committed to playing for another Big Ten program, looking to make Ohio State regret its decision to let him go.
Former Ohio State football player Bryce West commits to Wisconsin
After leaving the Buckeyes, West has decided to play for a former Buckeye in Luke Fickell. He will be playing for Wisconsin next year. The Buckeyes do not play the Badgers next season, but theoretically could see them in the Big Ten Championship Game next year if both teams qualify.
West is good enough to get playing time for a P4 program, even if he's not a full-time starter yet. He certainly possesses enough talent to compete for a starting job. He likely would have done that next season with the Buckeyes, but he wasn't guaranteed a starting spot.
Cornerback is a spot that Ohio State is suddenly losing a lot of depth at. They might need to add a corner from the portal just to make sure they have depth that they feel good about heading into next season. Otherwise, they will be relying on a lot of young guys if their top three guys go down.
Next season, only Jermaine Mathews Jr. and Devin Sanchez are locked in as starters. The nickel spot is still very much up for grabs.
