While the Ohio State Buckeyes have had a solid start to the 2026 season, the same cannot be said for TTUN. In fact, the Wolverines are lucky they are not 3-3. They should have lost the season-opener against Western Michigan. Even so, they have lost their first two Big Ten games of the season.
Former Buckeye head coach Urban Meyer did not hold back on what he thinks the issue is with his team. His longtime friend Kyle Whittingham is the head coach, but that didn't stop him from talking about the many issues that the Wolverines have on the team.
Urban Meyer takes a blowtorch to TTUN's culture
Meyer doesn't believe that the culture is good enough to pull the team together. He said so on the Triple Option Show.
"You know, whenever they win, the quarterback gets too much glory. When they lose, they get too much blame. But that sideline, I just didn't feel the dudes anywhere. And I was looking. I was going, 'Where are the grown-a-- men?' I didn't feel it; I didn't see it. When there had to be a big stop, I didn't feel the energy."
The offense is clearly the biggest issue for TTUN right now. Bryce Underwood has looked horrendous, much to the glee of Buckeye fans all around. He looks like the biggest waste of NIL money in the history of NIL money. Underwood might get benched before the Buckeyes host the Wolverines in November.
The culture in Ann Arbor seems to be taking a hit. Tight end Zack Marshall decided to call out his coaches in a group chat that got leaked. That underlies the problem that Whittingham has with his program. Meanwhile, the Ohio State Buckeyes keep chugging along and winning games.
Ohio State has a clear mental edge over TTUN
While the vibes have never been worse for the Wolverines, the vibes are pretty high for the Buckeyes. Ohio State is coming off a dominant victory over Iowa on the road, which gives them confidence that they will be able to run through the gauntlet they face in the month of October.
Ohio State's offense looks like one of the most unstoppable forces in the country, even with a lack of explosive running plays. Jeremiah Smith is too good to be stopped. Julian Sayin is looking better than he did last year. If it wasn't for an inexplicable collapse in the fourth quarter against Texas, this team would still be undefeated.
Meanwhile, TTUN is cratering. Meyer has to secretly love that the Wolverines are failing, even at the expense of Whittingham. He hates TTUN, even though he respects them. Right now, the Buckeyes hold a massive edge over the Wolverines as The Game gets closer.
That doesn't mean that Ohio State can just waltz into the Shoe and get a win. They know better than that, especially after what happened in the first part of the decade. The Game has a funny way of being unpredictable, which is part of what makes it so great.
