The Ohio State basketball program has had a weird last few years. They have missed the last three NCAA Tournaments and had a player transfer to Michigan in the offseason. Roddy Gayle decided to leave the Buckeyes and head for TTUN, although he has mostly had a bad year.
A couple of years ago, the Buckeyes had a recruit de-commit from the program to choose Michigan instead. What makes things worse is that the recruit was from Dayton, so he left the state, committed to Ohio State, and took that commitment away to head to Michigan instead.
That player is George Washington III. He decided to play basketball at Michigan last season instead of playing in Columbus. He ended up lasting just one season at TTUN. He averaged just 1.2 points in just over six minutes played for the Wolverines. Then, he entered the transfer portal. Now, he's entered it for the second time.
Former Ohio State basketball recruit George Washington III enters transfer portal for second time
Washington III transferred to Richmond for this season but played in just nine games. In fact, he got less playing time in those games than he did playing for TTUN. He ended up playing under five minutes per game in the nine games he appeared in for the Spiders.
It seems that the Ohio State Buckeyes may have dodged a bullet by having him not choose to come to Columbus. It seems that he wouldn't have been good enough to get playing time for Ohio State anyway. Still, he would have taken up a roster spot that someone else occupied.
Washington III is in the transfer portal for the second time now. It's unclear at this point where he is going to end up. If he couldn't get playing time at Richmond and contribute for them, he might need to move down to D II ball.
