The Ohio State basketball program decided to fire Chris Holtmann midway through the 2022-23 season. He had failed to meet expectations, and his players had stopped playing as hard for him as they did early in his tenure. They decided to hire Jake Diebler to take over his duties.

After being ousted from the Ohio State Buckeyes, Holtmann found his way to DePaul. He finished under .500 in his first season, but still made great strides with the Blue Devils. Unfortunately for him, those strides seem to be short-lived. His team now appears to be in serious trouble.

So far this season, the Blue Devils are 10-7. It looks like their momentum is going to come to a screeching halt over an alleged gambling scandal. Holtmann's team was named in the indictment, and some of the details could spell serious trouble for the basketball program.

DePaul was one of 17 schools that were named in the federal indictment. In the indictment, the feds allege that during a game last season, coached by Holtmann, the players conspired to underperform in the first half of a game against Georgetown in order to hit the under on the first-half spread.

These are some serious allegations against players that Holtmann coached. To be clear, Holtmann was not named in the indictment, nor has he been charged with a crime. His knowledge of the events is unkown, and he is not implicated in any wrongdoing.

Still, these alleged details are extremely troubling. It's a good thing nothing ever happened like this while he was with the Buckeyes. With Ohio State, the only thing they have to worry about is actually playing well in the games that they are playing in right now.

It's unclear what the potential consequences are for the DePaul program. They will likely suffer severe penalties. It's also unclear what Holtmann's future with the program is since this happened under his watch.
