Former NFL QB thinks Arch Manning would be a perfect fit at Ohio State next year

It looks like the Ohio State Buckeyes will have a new starting quarterback for the rest of this season. Julian Sayin was hurt against Indiana, and it would be shocking to see him back this year. That means it will be either Luke Fahey or Tavien St. Clair taking the reins.

However, it's unclear who will be the quarterback next season for the Buckeyes. This injury makes it more likely that Sayin returns next year. If he doesn't, former NFL quarterback Dan Orlovsky believes that the Buckeyes should consider targeting someone they've already faced: Arch Manning.

Dan Orlovsky believes that Arch Manning would fit well with the Ohio State Buckeyes

While appearing on First Take, Orlovsky floated the idea that the Buckeyes could bring in Manning next season. He believes it would be a good fit for both parties.

"I don't believe Arch should go to the NFL. I believe Arch should leave Texas. I believe he should go to a place that can develop him as a quarterback. That gives you the ability to play quarterback, see reads."

Orlovsky then quote-tweeted the post and mentioned Ohio State as a good place for Manning.

Would the Buckeyes be interested in taking Manning? He has played well in exactly one of the seven quarters that he has played against the Buckeyes as a starter. Even in 2024, he almost fumbled in the one play he got in during the Cotton Bowl. He looks like he's regressed as a quarterback.

Of course, Ryan Day's reputation was built on helping quarterbacks become better. He certainly has that opportunity for the rest of this season, but could he help fix Manning? Manning has a ton of talent. It would be nice for the Buckeyes to have a veteran quarterback next season, especially if Fahey and St. Clair flounder.

Ohio State is highly unlikely to land Arch Manning next season

It would be shocking to see Manning come north to play college football. There is a much better chance that he stays in the SEC to play next year if he decides to stay in college football. There's a much larger chance that he ends up playing at Ole Miss or Tennessee next year.

That's where his uncles attended school back in the day. Ole Miss is the most likely scenario, as that's where his dad went. Ole Miss will be losing Trinidad Chambliss, so that would be a logical fit. It would be very surprising if Manning ever played a down for a college not in the SEC.

Ohio State will likely have to look elsewhere if it is looking to add a quarterback. The ideal scenario is that either Fahey or St. Clair lights it up in the final few weeks of the season and becomes the starter next year. That's what Day is hoping for.

Of course, if Sayin comes back, it's almost certain that he will be the starter next season. He was playing very well before he got hurt against the Hoosiers. It remains to be seen if Manning will be able to rebound and keep the starting job at Texas.
