Lincoln Kienholz made the decision to transfer away from the Ohio State football program, and it looks like that was the right decision.
Just two weeks into his Louisville Cardinals career, Kienholz has shown that he has the chops to be a starting quarterback. In the first half of the Week 1 loss against Ole Miss, he looked lost and overmatched. That has been put in the rearview mirror, as Kienholz had a huge game against Villanova.

In a Week 2 victory over Villanova, the former Buckeye quarterback finished 16/21 for 332 yards and two touchdowns through the air. On the ground, he added 42 yards and two touchdowns on six carries. He was the best player on the field, and he didn't even play the full game.
Of course, this game was just against an FCS opponent. The Wildcats won't be confused for Georgia anytime soon. Still, it was an impressive performance for it being his second-ever start. He was in total command of the offense, and he's showing he is good enough to be a starting quarterback in the Power 4.
Kienholz was never going to get a chance to start for the Buckeyes. After Julian Sayin transferred in just weeks after Signing Day in 2024, it was pretty much a foregone conclusion that he was going to be the future starter. His performance last year sealed that fact after he was a Heisman Finalist.
The loss to Ole Miss hurts the Cardinals' chances of making the College Football Playoff, but it doesn't eliminate them by any stretch. They could still win the ACC, especially since they don't have to face Miami. SMU is the toughest team on their schedule, and they face them next week.
Ohio State football fans always believed Lincoln Kienholz could be good
Despite the fact that the Buckeyes were never going to let Kienholz start, that didn't stop Ohio State fans from always believing in him. He was the most athletic quarterback on the roster last season, as he can really move the ball with his legs. That's something that Sayin lacks right now.
Ohio State needs Sayin to take a page out of Kienholz's book and be a little more willing to run the ball. He is not nearly as fast as Kienholz, but taking what is being given to him is something he has been working on all offseason. He showed that against Ball State by running for a touchdown.
Louisville needs Kienholz to keep playing at a high level for them to have any shot of making the College Football Playoff. He does have some skill players around him, but he has to carry a heavy load. Buckeye fans believe that he can do it, and Cardinal fans do too.
With Kienholz done with his Week 2 game already, he can watch his former team take on Texas and hopefully get a big win against the fourth-ranked Longhorns.
