Carlos Locklyn has largely done a good job since taking over as the running backs coach for the Ohio State Buckeyes. He was able to help both TreVeyon Henderson and Quinshon Judkins both run for over 1,000 yards in 2024, en route to a national championship.
Locklyn is only in Columbus because Tony Alford decided to betray the Buckeyes and head for Michigan in the middle of spring practice. On Wednesday, the Buckeyes lost out on five-star running back David Gabriel Georges. Alford decided to troll the entire Ohio State football program over it.

Alford took to social media to troll the Buckeyes after Gabriel Georges decided to pick Tennessee.

This simple message was meant to troll Ohio State after DGG picked the Vols. It's an interesting decision from him, especially after what happened in the last two years. Ohio State won the national championship immediately after Alford left the program. Last year, the Buckeyes crushed TTUN in Ann Arbor.
Alford also touted the fact that he had Justice Haynes for a while. Then, Haynes got hurt and transferred to Georgia Tech. Alford watched his head coach get fired for an illegal affair with a staffer, which led to him getting arrested after he threatened her.
Throwing stones in glass houses is certainly a choice from Alford. The Buckeyes have proven that they are just fine without Alford, even if they did lose out on a five-star recruit. They still have Bo Jackson, who crushed TTUN last season. Ohio State will be just fine.
Meanwhile, TTUN is a program that is in deep crisis. They just fired their athletic director, and it's unlikely that Kyle Whittingham stays for a long time in Ann Arbor. He is a stopgap coach. Still, the Buckeyes are going to find a way to beat him in November in Columbus.
Ohio State will be fine without David Gabriel Georges
It certainly hurts not to land Gabriel Georges. Ryan Day and his staff spent the better part of two years recruiting him, putting all of their eggs in one basket to bring him in. However, they will be fine without him. The price that Tennessee paid for him was way too high for the Buckeyes.
Gabriel Georges heads to a program that hasn't won a meaningful game in two decades. Meanwhile, the Buckeyes have a real shot to win their second national championship in three years. That is going to be how this recruiting decision is ultimately judged.
However, it is clear that Day made a mistake going all-in on Gabriel Georges, only to miss out on him. This should be a lesson for the coaching staff to make sure that they don't do this again in another recruiting class, regardless of the position.
This is a painful lesson that the staff has learned, but they are still in a much better spot than Alford and Michigan. Alford continues to make enemies in Columbus.
