The Ohio State football team will have to contend with some new rules now that the House settlement has finally been approved. There is a whole set of new rules that the Ohio State Buckeyes will have to deal with now that everything is set.
Perhaps the biggest question that Ohio State football fans have is whether or not these rules will make the Buckeyes better or worse. Will the rules benefit or hurt them? New NIL rules would seem to help them, but it also does put a cap on what they can spend, and they are in a position to be one of the highest spenders.
Figuring out if the House settlement will help or hurt the Ohio State football team
Looking at all of the new rules that are coming, the settlement shouldn't really have much of an effect either way on the Buckeyes. While roster limits are on the way, they haven't been finalized yet. The NIL budget will go up every year, but that might inhibit how good Ohio State can be.
NIL is not a massive part of Ohio State's recruiting strategy. They will have a package to offer to incoming recruits, but they also have to keep money year after year to pay players on the current roster. None of the top schools should be affected by this as much.
Considering Ohio State stands to spend much of the athletic department's NIL budget most years, they should still be in a good position to compete for national championships every single year. There is no reason that the House settlement should make Ohio State worse.
There is no clear benefit for Ohio State over some of the other blue blood programs in the country. That doesn't mean that some of the other schools that are close to being in the top echelon won't be benefiting from the new rules, as long as they are enforced.
