The Ohio State football team defended its national championship in a perfect way after taking down Texas. It was the second consecutive game that the Longhorns lost to the Buckeyes. Ohio State took down Texas in the Cotton Bowl in order to play for a national title.
Having the number three team in the country take down the number one team usually means that team moves into the top spot. Yet, pundits from ESPN would make you think the opposite in the last couple of days. They have argued that LSU should be there instead of Ohio State.
The AP Poll and the Coaches Poll were released on Tuesday afternoon. The coaches seemed to agree with common sense, voting the Buckeyes as the top team in the poll. In fact, LSU didn't even jump Penn State or Georgia, as they came in at fourth in the ranking.

Media members also decided that the Ohio State Buckeyes were worthy of being the top-ranked team. The AP Poll had Ohio State and Penn State as the top two teams, which is how it should be. LSU came in at third in the Poll, which is the right call based on the first week of action.
The Buckeyes showed that they were the best team in the country with what they did against Texas. Despite some very loud noise from the SEC powers that be, the voters did the correct thing. The polls don't matter at this point in the season, but the Buckeyes are still going to protect that top spot.
Ohio State is likely to be the top-ranked team in the country when it takes on Illinois next month, which will be its next big test before second-ranked Penn State comes into the Shoe in November. That game has the possibility to be yet another all-timer at home.
The Buckeyes showed the college football world that they are the best team in college football. Despite all of the talent they lost from last year's national championship team, they still have a lot of really good players.
