The Ohio State Buckeyes and Indiana Hoosiers both remained undefeated on Saturday, with the former putting down the Purdue Boilermakers 34-10 in West Lafayette, and the latter breaking the Penn State Nittany Lions' hearts 27-24 on a game-winning touchdown drive in the final minute.
As CBS Sports' David Cobb noted, OSU quarterback Julian Sayin and receiver Jeremiah Smith remained thick in the Heisman conversation with their play on Saturday.
"New week, same Jeremiah Smith. Ohio State's stud sophomore receiver added to his lengthy highlight montage with seven receptions for 109 yards and a touchdown in No. 1 Ohio State's 34-10 win at Purdue. Oh, did we mention that was Smith's first half line? He made another three catches in the second half to finish with a career-high 10 receptions, further bolstering his candidacy in a Heisman race that also features his quarterback, Julian Sayin," Cobb wrote.
As for IU QB Fernando Mendoza, who spearheaded the final drive with spectacular throws to Hoosiers receivers Charlie Becker and one in the end zone to Omar Cooper Jr., no mention of the award from Cobb. Only a team-wide view of Curt Cignetti's group.
"Blowing everyone out is fun, but for a team with championship aspirations, getting tested can be useful as well. IU has championship aspirations, and it can draw on Saturday's clutch touchdown drive if and when tense moments arise in the postseason," Cobb wrote.
CBS Sports gives TAMU their due after destroying Mizzou
The TAMU Aggies, the No. 3 team in the College Football Playoff's first rankings and the third unbeaten in the Power 4, got their shine in Cobb's Week 11 Winners and Losers list. TAMU destroyed the Missouri Tigers 38-17 in CoMo on Saturday afternoon.
Mike Elko has inspired hope during his second season in charge, convincing Cobb that he's already surpassed Jimbo Fisher and Kevin Sumlin. The lack of a mention of Aggies QB Marcel Reed is the difference between why Ohio State and Indiana are seen as true title contenders and TAMU is not.
We'll see if things change over the final three weeks of the regular season and championship weekend. They often do in this sport.
