The Ohio State football program is ranked as the number-one team in the country. They are clearly one of the most talented teams in the country. After they won the national championship last season, they felt great about their chances of repeating in 2025.
So far, they are undefeated with wins over Texas, Grambling State, and Ohio. The Buckeyes have what might be the best win in the country. Despite that fact, one college football pundit has the Ohio State Buckeyes in one of the dumbest possible spots in his weekly rankings.
Danny Kannell of CBS Sports has been known as an SEC hater. Despite that, he has an SEC team ahead of Ohio State. In fact, he has three teams ranked ahead of the Bucks, including another Big Ten team. He has Ohio State ranked fourth in his top 12 rankings.
Danny Kannell stupidly puts the Ohio State football program fourth in his weekly rankings
He has Miami, Oklahoma, and Oregon ahead of the Buckeyes, in that order. Take a look at his entire set of rankings below.
After Week 4 …the most reliable ranking out there #DKtop12 #gottaearnit
— Danny Kanell (@dannykanell) September 21, 2025
1. Miami
2. Oklahoma
3. Oregon
4. Ohio State
5. LSU
6. Ole Miss
7. Georgia
8. Florida State
9. Vanderbilt
10. Texas AM
11. Texas Tech
12. Georgia Tech
Regardless of where Ohio State is in these rankings, he doesn't even have Penn State up there. Penn State is clearly one of the most talented teams in the country, even if they aren't as good as the Buckeyes. These rankings don't make a lot of sense.
Of course, Kannell justifies this by using the eye test, claiming that these are the 12 teams that have looked the best when they have played, regardless of who they've beaten. He doesn't seem to give any credit to Ohio State for beating Texas in Week 1 in what was clearly a clash of titans.
Ohio State isn't worried about any of this. The first College Football Playoff rankings will come out in a couple of months, and they just want to make sure they are in that ranking. They certainly would love to go undefeated and get the bye for the CFP, as well.
