Ohio State’s third weekend of the 2025 college baseball season started horribly in Arlington, Texas. The Buckeyes lost to Auburn by a whopping 13 to nothing, eating a shutout loss. It was the first (and only) time the Buckeyes scored less than six runs this season, and they had been averaging 8.3 per game headed into the contest with the Tigers.
Ohio State then faced Baylor on Saturday, and while they fought harder and played a respectable game, they still lost 8-6. Sunday, they played Oregon State in a battle of OSUs. Once again, the Buckeyes got a lead that they couldn’t maintain and lost to the currently 8th-ranked Beavers 12-10.
This drops the Buckeyes to an awful record of 1-8 in this still-young 2025 baseball season. Ohio State is outscored by an average of 7.3 to 10.1 per game. Their 7.3 runs per game is 100th in all of college baseball. There is no silver lining to being 1-8, but the difficult schedule the Bucks have played must be considered. Here are the new Top 25 Rankings as of March 3rd.

Half of Ohio State’s losses have come against teams currently ranked in the top 25. #8 Oregon State, #22 Auburn, #23 Alabama, and #24 Coastal Carolina. Six of Ohio State’s eight losses have been by two runs or less. Their struggles are glaring, but they are competing!
While only two of the Top 25 teams are from a northern state (Oregon and Oregon State), if the Ducks can be a great college baseball team, there is no reason the Buckeyes can’t. Even though it does look like a long way to the top for Ohio State if they want to be a contending baseball program. Ohio State has their home opener Tuesday against St. John’s at 3:00 PM. This weekend they’ll host a series against Valparaiso.
