Buffalo Bills cornerback Davison Igbinosun is coming off a seven-tackle performance in a win over the LA Rams on Monday Night Football. He's a natural human-interest story right now for his ability to overcome a stutter and become one of the best cornerbacks in his draft class. Igbinosun is showing immense promise in his rookie season in the league as a second-round pick via the Scarlet and Gray.
Igbinosun recently discussed his adjustments to college football, where he played for Ohio State and Ole Miss, and the challenges it brought. There were unique challenges in Columbus and in Oxford, Mississippi, coming from New Jersey.
"I've always been kind of overlooked or have to come in and prove myself. When I got to Ole Miss as a freshman from New Jersey, I had to prove myself. Earn my playing time. When I got to Ohio State, same situation. There were guys already in the room. Competed and proved myself. And in the NFL, I'm doing the same thing. So I feel everything in my past has prepared me for these opportunities," Igbinosun said.
Igbinosun was a quick study upon arriving with the Rebels. He was an even quicker study when he transferred to the Buckeyes. Igbinosun spent one year with Ole Miss before spending three at The Ohio State University.
“I feel like it's been like very easy,” Igbinosun said of transferring to OSU in 2023. “Ohio State has been very easy. It feels like home, like it feels like Jersey.”
Igbinosun said that enrolling at the University of Mississippi as a freshman was the hardest thing he ever had to do. Playing for Lane Kiffin likely offered its own unique challenges.
Davis Igbinosun made life-changing decision with Ohio State transfer
Igbinosun left an Ole Miss program that was on a hot streak relative to its history. 2023, 2024, and 2025 were all great years for the Rebels. The 2025 season was more successful for Ole Miss than it was for Ohio State. The Rebels made it to the CFP semifinal and won two games on the way, including one against Georgia.
Then again, Igbinosun won a championship in 2024. It doesn't get any better than that, especially since he helped contribute with an interception against Tennessee in the first round.
Igbinosun had an ideal collegiate journey. He landed at a program that was able to give him an even brighter spotlight, with even more NFL scouts at his games.
Igbinosun got to experience firsthand if the SEC really did "just mean more" than playing at a modern Big Ten juggernaut.
Most importantly, he found a home that fully embraced him. The results have been astounding so far, with some bumps in the road during his rookie season in Buffalo hardly slowing down his trajectory.
