As we get deeper into the postseason in college football, more players are deciding to enter the transfer portal. That includes Ohio State football players. They have had two quarterbacks, two receivers, and a linebacker enter the portal as of Wednesday morning.
On Wednesday afternoon, we found out where one of the receivers was transferring to. We also learned that another Buckeye decided to enter the portal. That player is safety Jayden Bonsu. Bonsu was a member of the 2023 recruiting class and will have four more years of eligibility left.
When Bonsu committed to the Ohio State Buckeyes initially, he flipped his commitment from Miami. The Buckeyes got him as a three-star prospect out of high school, but he was a four-star prospect on certain recruiting services. He will look for some playing time elsewhere.
Ohio State football player Jayden Bonsu enters the transfer portal
Bonsu didn't really see any action with the Buckeyes. He clearly wants to go somewhere that he can find more playing time. Next year might have been his chance to do so with the Buckeyes, though. Ohio State's safety depth is not going to be great next season.
Bonsu was a name that a lot of people were expecting to see in the transfer portal, so this isn't a surprise. He had already been passed up on the depth chart by both Malik Hartford and Jaylen McClain. He was going to have to battle those guys for playing time next season.
Ohio State will likely head into the portal to try and grab a safety to help increase the depth. They will need to keep getting players from the portal at various positions. While they finally got their first transfer portal commitment, they need to have several more before the coaches and fans feel comfortable.
