The Ohio State women's basketball team has had a rough couple of years. They have failed to live up to expectations in the NCAA Tournament in each of the last two seasons despite being the higher-seeded team. In fact, they have lost in the NCAA Tournament at home in each of those years.
Kevin McGuff has found himself under some heavy scrutiny. One of the Buckeyes' best players transferred out after the season. Cotie McMahon decided to leave after three years with the Ohio State Buckeyes, and now McGuff has a hard road ahead of him.
Off the court, things have now gotten tougher for McGuff, aside from the criticism he is facing from fans around the Ohio State women's basketball program. He was arrested and charged with an OVI, making his offseason even harder than it has been over the last couple of months.
Ohio State women's basketball coach Kevin McGuff gets charged with an OVI
McGuff was charged with an OVI last week. Allegedly, he hit several curbs and drove through someone's yard. He failed three in-car tests that police officers administered to him. He refused to do a breathalyzer, but his license was taken away by the police on suspicion of OVI.
None of the details of this arrest sound good for McGuff. He shouldn't be putting himself in situations like this as a representative of the university. People who are employed by Ohio State shouldn't be putting themselves or others in danger, which is what McGuff allegedly did.
It will be interesting to see how the university responds to this when all of the facts come out. Ross Bjork surely won't be happy. McGuff was already entering next season with his seat warm, and this event will only make things worse for him.
Ohio State is still hoping for a better season next year, whether McGuff is able to be there or not.
