The first round of the NFL Draft could not have gone any better for the Ohio State Buckeyes, as all four players slated to go early did just that. It all kicked off with the surprising high pick of Carnell Tate to the Tennessee Titans at No. 4. Arvell Reese made it back-to-back Ohio State picks at No. 5 to the New York Giants.

Sonny Styles was the next Buckeye taken at No. 7 to the Washington Commanders, and Caleb Downs rounded things out by being taken at No. 11 to the Dallas Cowboys. Ohio State head coach Ryan Day had to be happy to see all his guys taken, as Downs marked the 99th Ohio State player to be taken in the first round.

The 2027 NFL Draft is set to be another big one for the Buckeyes, especially for wide receiver Jeremiah Smith if she chooses to go pro after next season.

Jeremiah Smith can make Ohio State history in the first round of the 2027 NFL Draft

Jeremiah Smith is getting ready to enter his junior season with the Buckeyes, and many NFL teams are probably hoping it will be his last. Smith could choose to enter the 2027 NFL Draft, and if he did, he would make Ohio State history.

Four Buckeyes were drafted in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft, which moved Ohio State's number of first-round draft picks to 99. So, if Smith were to head to the draft next season, he is most likely going to be the first Buckeye taken, which would make him the historic 100th Ohio State player taken in the first round of the NFL Draft.

Now, Smith could also choose to stay for his final season at Ohio State, as he has talked about wanting to win as many National Championships with the Buckeyes as possible. It will probably all come down to what will be the best move for Smith and his draft position as quarterback Arch Manning is most likely heading to the 2027 NFL Draft as well, and it could be a battle for the No. 1 pick.
